The aftermath of ‘Semaine Mode Montréal’
I met this good friend of mine at Montréal Fashion Week in February 2013, and she did an interview with me as a part of her studying project.
Here is a part of what we talked about:
People are letting go
Excerpts from the interview:
Can you describe your personal style?
It’s me. That’s what I call it. Me, myself and I. Like today, I could totally rock this boyish look. Another day I could go for skinny pants or something more feminine. It depends on how I feel when I wake up. I just grab something and that’s my outfit for today. Fashion is all about doing what you want to do and expressing yourself.
How would you describe black style?
Black style? It has been mostly hip-hop. If you come to Nordic countries I think black style … most of the black people they came out of being hip-hop or gangster. Most of those you find, the fashionable ones, are true artists. Whenever they dress themselves, they create. And I think that’s something we’re going to be seeing mostly with the new generation, our generation. People are becoming themselves, people are letting go. Sometimes there’s this stereotype of a black person but now people are coming out and putting themselves out there, like “this is me. Take it or leave it.”
